Creative Writing Boot Camp is an intensive course designed to develop the students’ creative writing skills. Adapted from the curriculum taught in universities across the country, it employs a studio-style setting found in many MFA programs. Part lecture, part workshop, this fast-paced course will focus on honing the craft behind the elements a writer should master in order to build and edit a compelling narrative from inside out. Class highlights include: story development, characterization, dialogue, tension, pacing, voice, conflict, and world building. These elements, and more, are what agents and editors study before taking on new clients, and they always appreciate an expertly polished manuscript. We will also explore how to create a powerful beginning, what keeps the narrative flowing, and how to arrive at an impressive conclusion. Various stages and aspects of writing will be introduced in detail, and hands-on exercises implemented to practice the skills discussed.
